Sažetak:animal names in slang : The article deals with animal names in slang In that kind of language, their newly acquired meanings, largely metaphoric, span from human physical and mental notation and psychic characteristics, mostly according to visual similarity with somephysical characteristic, and the already known characteristics of particular animal species. An important feature in their physical characteristics is roughness and cruelty and the desire to deride soomebody. What matters most in both categories is that nouns are given an adjectival meaning. Many animal names in sland denote the male and female sex and arts of the body and the male and female sexual organs. The names given to animal habitata are often pajoratively transposed to those of humans nad, since novelty and trendiness play an importand role in the life of young people, this is also seen in slang as well as in language, because they constantly seek for new modes of ecpression. Animal names anre also given to cars and motorcycles. If we exempt the last category, it is clear primarly that animal names are realtied to Humankind, which is interesting since human beings are becoming more estranged from Nature and since Humankind lives far less with it. It is obvious that soome kind of connection still exist, but it differs from that of popular mythology and the rural way of life, when the names of particular animals had greater importance and when they cooncealed more meaning and when animals were taboo. Today's connection in slang argely reduces to visual association and the desire for stylistic expression and irony and ridicule.

Sažetak:Language and the animal : Each animal species has its own language, its mode of communication within the species and outside it, while Humankind treats animals in various ways in its numerous languages. The ocntent of this paper relate oly to the second of these issues - the place of animals in human language. In myths, fables and fairy-tales, animals speak and are spoken to. Man attaches scientific and popular names to the animals' bodies and the sounds they produce. He gives himself the forename and surname of certain animals. He attributes the features of certain animals to his own spiritual characteristics and behaviour. He praises, curses and speaks the language of love by reffering to certain animal species. With which animal species does he do all that and why precisely with them, and not certain others?
